Role of Steel Tanks in the Storage Work Industry

Steel has replaced most of the traditional materials used for construction and storage work since as far back in the history as mid-eighteenth century. In those times, wrought or cast iron was used to build large metal structures. Steel was produced in very small quantities mainly for the purposes of forging weapons and jewellery.

Advent of modern technologies in steel manufacturing industry led to steel being mass-produced at cheaper rates and of better quality. These days steel is used for creating a variety of constructions such as steel walls, steel hardware, steel tank, etc.

Steel tanks are used in every nook and corner of the industry. Ranging from agriculture to manufacturing and construction to petroleum, steel tanks play a pivotal role in them. With the development in the world, the purpose for which steel is used has widened exponentially in terms of quantity and quality both. One of the primary function of steel tank is storage of materials.

The nature and the magnitude of the substances stored in these tanks has changed a lot over past few decades. Owing to the industrial evolution, the demand of sturdy and versatile tanks has increased a lot.

Primarily in petrochemical industry, one requires to store substances that are diverse in forms and properties in humongous quantity. In order to cater to this need, bigger and better steel tanks are being erected. Steel tank erection techniques have improved quite a lot over the years in order to construct these tanks efficiently.

One of the most implemented method for erecting a steel tank involves laying the tank bottom first and start building the tank roof. Hydraulic equipment such as climbers and power pack are used to lift the upper part of the tank that consists of roof and shell assembly. Pre-positioned lifting trestles are placed along the tank wall and tank jacks mounted on them lift the structure. Steel plates are then welded underneath the upper part of the steel tank. This process is continued till the tank reaches its desired height.

By using modern machineries such as lifting trestles, guiding trestles and hydraulic equipment, civil engineers can now erect steel tanks at a low cost and faster construction rate. There are many companies in Sweden that help clients with their steel tank supply requirements. Bygging-Uddemann in Sweden is one of such companies that have secured a rank among the top names in the industry.
