Why Contractors Need Public Liability Insurance
The main reason why contractors need public liability insurance is to secure the business. Being in this business is a good thing considering that the income opportunities are limitless. However, it comes with a huge risk. The construction site will always be a death trap and several cases of injuries or even deaths have been recorded in the past.
It is annoying to spend more money on your business just to secure insurance. You still have to get it though. In some cases, you are required to do so as mandated by the law but you can still find affordable contractors insurance. You need not worry about the cost of insurance that you need to pay on a monthly basis if there is one that is affordable enough, and the coverage is great.
What does public liability insurance cover?
This insurance will cover injury claims made by third parties. If a third party ended up getting hurt while working, this insurance will cover their medical expenses or even provide them with financial support up until they are back on their feet again.
It will also protect your business in the event that there is damage to property. It is inevitable that damage could occur, especially since heavy equipment and materials are used all the time. If the property has been badly damaged, you could be sued and this could cost your business a lot of money. The good thing is that this is also covered by the insurance so you can file a claim and the expenses will be covered. It can even extend to sub-contractors.
Just remember that this is a form of third party insurance. It does not cover you if you meet injuries while working. Your property or vehicles are also excluded in the coverage. There are other types of insurance policies you can take out so that if those incidents happen you are covered.
If you can’t find the best public liability insurance locally or you think that the options are too expensive, the best thing you can do is go online. There are more options available online. You just have to find one that suits your needs. Customized insurance is also possible. It allows you to decide which coverage to be included.
Don’t think that this is another expense on your end. You are running a high-risk business. Anything can happen while construction is going on. It would be better to be protected now than take the risk later when an unfortunate incident has already taken place. It also won’t take time to look for insurance options locally or online.
