The Future of Plastics
Ever since the invention of Plastics by Alexander Parkes in 1856, Plastics have evolved itself with new technology that could serve on for every household or industrial use. Plastics today are very much part of our mundane life that supports in fulfilling our needs. It is a historic invention made up of either a synthetic or semi-synthetic solid that can be molded or twisted. Plastic belongs to class of organic polymers of higher molecular mass, but they may contain other substances too. The future of plastics is dependent on the Technological Advancement that’s about to be unveiled soon.
Biodegradable Plastic: This type of plastics will find out the solutions for ever answered questions for being non-biodegradability and non-renewable sourced out of oil. Modern Technology has found out the solution by using enzymes and catalysts in order to change into renewable sources such as biogas used for manufacturing plastics along with synthetic rubbers.
These Biodegradable plastics are highly sustainable because of less dependency on fossil fuels.
Composites in Plastics: Plastic composites augmented by various fibers, like carbon components, to make them durable, lighter and more flexible. Such fiber augmented plastics are commonly used in Aircraft Manufacturing, from modern fighter jets like F/A-22 Raptor to giant jetliners of Boeing 787 or Airbus A380 which are made up of at least 50% composite materials. Composite Plastics have a capability to hide a fighter plane from an enemy radar system. Composite Plastics are expensive to own, that’s the reason for major construction companies and car manufacturers to pulling out their plans to produce cars or materials made up of these types of plastics.
Nano-composites in Plastics: These types of plastics are the refinement of Composite Plastics. They are augmented with tiny particles of substances containing Graphene, light weighted and powerful. Nano-Composites are best in practice for the process healing internal bones by creating internal body scaffolds. These types of plastics may find potential users in Medical field.
Nano-Composites in Plastics are still in nascent stage, the invention has proven to revolutionize the future.
Self Mending Polymers: Plastics, likewise humans and other naturalized materials in age tend to fail. But, Technology is able to find a solution in terms of Self Mending Polymers. These polymers are biologically self curable by forming a gel that scaffold over the damaged area and seal them with another polymer, by restoring most of the material’s strength.
Plastics in Electronics and for Adulteration: Till today most of the polymers were carried over with highly insulating properties, they aren’t conductive to electricity. In latest innovation of Polyacetylene found out that its ability to conduct electricity when impurities are induced through a process known to be Adulteration.
Conductive nature of polymers opened the doors for new innovations in the world of Electronics, like flexible computer screen sets, Conductive inks and coating which helps in drying out heat or Ultraviolet radiation. It also showed a possibility to produce flexible circuit systems for membrane touch switches, keyboards, automotive sensors and touch screens etc.
Smart Polymers: Smart means something which works on its own, similarly a Polymer which are designed to work on its own are known to be Smart Polymers. Their usage varies from usage like sensors, drug delivery services & many other applications.
Plastics are changing their capabilities with the latest innovations, which causes zero pollution to environment, re-usability feature and self sustainability with smart features. The revolution of Plastics is merely endless.
